Idaho Rules of the Road: Turning Out of Slow Moving Vehicles
Idaho roads often have slow moving vehicles such as trackers. Know the Idaho Rules of the Road for turning out of slow moving vehicles.
Idaho Code § 49-639. TURNING OUT OF SLOW MOVING VEHICLES
On a two-lane highway outside an urban area where passing is unsafe due to oncoming traffic or other conditions, the driver of a vehicle traveling slower than the normal speed of traffic and behind which three (3) or more vehicles are formed in line, shall turn off the roadway at the nearest place designated as a turnout or wherever sufficient area for a safe turnout exists, in order to permit the following vehicles to pass.
Fatal Car Accidents Usually Happen on Rural Roads
Slow moving vehicles are typically seen on the rural roads of Idaho. Though urban roads seem more safe than urban streets due to less traffic it is actually the opposite. In fact, in 2013, nearly 3,000 more fatal car accidents occurred on urban roads than on busy urban streets reported the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The next time you are driving behind a slow moving vehicle on an urban road, check twice before attempting to pass.
